The Abbey

Reviews

This extravagant 17th century townhouse is far and away the best hotel in Penzance. The elegant sky-blue mansion still retains much of its gentlemanly atmosphere and period features, including an oak-panelled dining room, a secluded walled garden and a warren of creaky wood-floored corridors.

Reviews

The Abbey is a rare gem, a hotel that refuses to enter the modern world, choosing instead to linger in its serenely elegant past. The feel is of a smart country house, and the drawing room – roaring fire, huge gilt mirror, walls of books, rugs on stripped floors – is hard to beat.

One of our long-time favourite hotels, this delightful sky-blue house makes a perfect base for exploring south Cornwall or setting off for the Isles of Scilly. It's a marvellous antidote to bland contemporary style with its eclectic, ravishingly pretty mix of paintings, antiques and objects d'art, all in a characterful 1660 house.
